ESPN Better Batter™ Baseball

With ESPN Better Batter™ Baseball, kids keep their eye where it should be when they’re learning to bat—on the ball, not the tee! This batting trainer’s innovative tee-free design makes learning to hit the baseball fun and easy—just tap the plate to automatically load a ball. The mechanical arm drops down, picks up a baseball, then raises right back to position! Sound effects, baseball “chatter” and ESPN music make this batter better than the rest! The baseball trainer’s height is adjustable for peewees to preschool pros. Includes bat and 3 baseballs. The ESPN Better Batter™ Baseball requires 3 “C” (LR14) alkaline batteries (not included). Approx. 39” H x 18” W x 27” L. Developmental Benefits: Sports play is more than just fun for kids—it’s a great way to encourage healthy physical and emotional development. Sports toys with built-in "grow-with-me" features let kids master new skills at their own pace, giving them a boost of self-confidence and a feeling of accomplishment from beginner … to pro!

Great batting trainer December 17, 2009
"We bought this for our 4 year old grandson for his birthday. He uses this with the set up assist of his mom or dad. Even our 2 year old grandson can hit the ball from this. The only drawback is not being able to find balls to replace the ones that have been lost. The price has gone up and it is a little expensive now, but we would still buy it knowing what a good toy it is."

Glad I didn't pay for this! August 24, 2009
"My 3 year old garndson received this item as a birthday gift from his uncle. This item had a working life span of about three day's (and I'm being generious).
PROBLEM 1: With in about ten minutes, the velcro securing mechanism came off of the arm. This is a poor design that has a piece of velcro on a backer material mounted on a ball and clamp design. After numerious efforts of reseating the velcro onto this clamping device, I had to modify and perminently bond it to the ball mount.
PROBLEM 2: The programmer chip used in the sequencing of the moving the ball chute up to the velcro arm is erratic and prone to failure. Now when my granson activates the unit, it costantly moves and feeds all of the balls up to the velcro, instead of one at a time. Additionally, the ball chute stops in the up (feed) position, in the way of the bat swing area.
Shutting it down removing batteries to hopefully re boot it have failed.
He has lost all interest in this item and so have I. Maybe I have a "Lemon" here, who knows. but I also have a dissipointed grandson.

"provides hours of fun and helps keep my daughter interested in sports. only thing I would change is the availabililty of replacement balls. had to make my own replacements that aren't quite as good as the originals. is there a stock number for replacement balls? I would like to continue using this item as long as possible."

Fun - but has a problem July 14, 2009
"My son just received this for his 3rd birthday. He loves pushing the button for the ball to load and the sound effects. One major problem I have is that EVERY time they hit the ball the tether and upper arm disconnect and fly off of the lower arm. I only saw one other comment on this, so it must be a defect. I will try and exchange it. Right now I have rope holding the arm on. One other minor thing is that the balls don't release that easily for my 3 year old and he gets frustrated with that. I think that will get better as he gets older and can hit it a little harder."

Awesome! June 14, 2009
"We bought this last night and set it up as soon as we came home, not only is my 2 1/2 year old son competant at setting it up he can really "whack" those balls hard! From the other reviews of this product we also went to the parts store and have ordered 2 bags of replacement balls. Since getting this toy I think we have had a harder time getting our son inside than any other toy he has, it really holds his interest and he loves the accompanying sound effects."

"We bought this approximately three hours ago and cannot get my 2 1/2 year old son to stop playing. He completely understands how to operate this and my husband has already put tape on the floor to show him how to stand. He will sleep well tonight!"

not great May 25, 2009
"I bought this for my 3 yr old. She was so excited. Before we even got the batteries in she was putting the ball on and hitting at it. The velcro was very sticky and balls didn't release very well. I thought "oh well, it just gives extra hitting practice." Then we put the batteries in --- when we tapped the button on the base it made sounds but nothing happened. We had to hold the button down and the arm raised slooooowly. probably at least 1 minute to raise. Then it wouldn't go back down at all. I took it right back and exchanged for a new one ...... same exact problem. We are calling customer service tomorrow. If it can't be fixed, it will definitely be going back."

Need to have replacement balls May 25, 2009
"My grandson received this as a birthday gift last year and didn't quite know how to operate it, he had just turned 3. Just brought it back out this weekend and he is operating it and have fun with the neighbor kids and dad hitting and practicing running. The only thing is, I can't find anywhere to order replacement balls once one is lost or damaged. Sure would like to find out how to do so, so he can enjoy this for a long time."

Fun...until... May 22, 2009
"We loved this at our house until...the inevitable...we lost the balls. Fisher Price really needs to sell replacements. We found some fabric balls at the dollar store...the velcro part works but they are too soft to go anywhere when you hit them."

Where's the Reorder of Balls? May 19, 2009
"This is a great product, but...
...what happens when the family's Siberian Husky decides to chew the balls quickly?
...what happens when the balls the wet or in dirt so the Velcro doesn't work well any more?
...what happens when the ball goes over the fence and down the hill and run over by cars?
I've scanned the instructions and box received with the product and can't find any way to get replacement balls. And with the potential for additional losses we're not about to buy a full model again.

"I think this product is very good for a child to learn to practice t-ball as it is called here with this product. Five year olds can join a team and play this here. against other teams. the problem I have is there is no extra ball replacements in stores for this game, so this would prevent me to tell someone about this toy. I hope your company in the future will see that you need to be able to buy extra balls separate because at this age they will get lost."

Best Baseball Invention Ever April 14, 2009
"This product is wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone I know and even those I don't. My grandson has almost worn his out, and he just got it for Christmas. We spend about 4-5 hours per day outside playing with this product (when weather permits). The only thing I wished Fisher Price would do is make the replacement balls available in the stores that sells this item, but other than that, this is one of the greatest toys ever bought for my children or grandchildren."
